Today I learned my mother was fired from Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple because she did not put a customer on hold when speaking to the director. My mother has been a greeter there for the last 6 years. A few weeks ago she was told she would be fired if she did not work a hotrod show. (They obviously found another way because she worked it ) She is 76 years old, makes coffee, makes cookies, and directs you to your loved ones. Everyone in town knows who she is. The way they fired her was very emotional for her and highly uncalled for. If they had decided she was to old to work, they should have sat her down and explained to her that they didnt feel she could do her job requirements. (Highly unprofessional) I just feel you all need to know how they really treat people before bringing your loved one here.
Our loving father passed unexpectedly on October 18, 2016. We are a very close family but despite that we were not prepared for my father's funeral planning. From the moment, we called Sabrina to inquire about service options and planning we were immediately assisted with patience, compassion and understanding. She made a very painful experience comfortable and put us all at ease. She and her staff went out of their way to make sure all the details for my father's viewing, funeral and burial were implemented. She held our hand when we most needed it. I highly recommend Harper Talasek (Temple). They treated my father with care, honored all our wishes and arranged my father's services perfectly. Thank you so much Sabrina for your warm demeanor and helping my brothers, sister and I plan my father's funeral. Thanks too, to your caring staff. We appreciate all you did for us.
His behavior toward the daughter of the deceased added greatly to her distress. He showed no compassion, in my opinion this line of work requires communication skill, which he clearly does not possess. Once you lose your compassion for others in need, you should move on and leave the job to someone, who does care.
My grand parents purchased a plan for their funeral. Everything was prepaid. When my grandfather passed there was an additional $1000.00 that needed to be paid. They said things went up in price. 12 years later my Grandmother passed. Again there was an additional fee. The one that amazed me the most was the fee to go and open the cemetery gate. $100.00. Very suspicious people who take prey on the elderly. Go anywhere else but here, and never pay for a "burial plan". They will not honor it. I gave them one star only because I had to in order to make this post.
I had to contact this above funeral home in my line of duty.
I spoke to Mr Thomas Roberts, who was rude and not helpful at all.
I never seen Funeral Homes do as much community service as Harper-Talasek does. The staff goes the extra mile for each family they serve and for the community. Thank you HT for all that you do!
