We had Mr. Gage and his son David out to our home. They came to our home to buy several old classic cars. We did not know they were contractors. Mr. Gage shook his hand on a promise to buy both classic cars and we made an appointment to have Mr. Gage back to our home to look at some renovations that we wanted to accomplish. When Mr. Gage came back to our home he seemed distant and pre-occupied, but he listened to what we wanted to do and we went over a plan commensurate with the priority list that he'd asked us to put together. Mr. Gage was on and off his cell phone during our entire conversation, which we felt was really important to us. In spite of this Mr. Gage committed to having an in-house architect draw up a plan and work out a financial package for us to apply for a second mortgage on our home. He also stated he would be back later that day with a check for both the cars that he had purchased from us.
Tommy and his team finished a project for us in just a couple days and the result was fantastic! We have several other projects in mind for the future and trust Gage Construction to take care of them all.
We never heard from him again, and, in spite of giving him the benefit of the doubt, he has not made one effort to call, apologize or reschedule. It has been three weeks since our last contact with Mr. Gage. We called him multiple times, actually concerned that he'd had an accident or some kind of terrible misfortune. When we told our friends that we were praying for him and his family, they said they'd had virtually the same experience. After several days we felt violated as our result of meeting Mr. Gage, having him into our home, spending an entire morning discussing our plans and dreams for our home. We did not and have not received so much as a call back from Mr. Gage.
As a man of faith I am obligated not to judge my fellow man. In this case, all I can tell you is exactly what happened with us, and with our friends. It is my obligation to inform those entering into business arrangements with Mr. Gage that they use extreme caution when doing so. I grew up in a generation where a hand-shake was and remains everything. Mr. Gage apparently has no idea what giving his word means. We have lost thousands of dollars as a result of our contact with Gage Construction. We hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.
